Volotea, the low cost airline, begin their operations in Malaga today

The first flight of the new low cost airline, Volotea, will be departing from Malaga airport at half past seven this evening. The destination is the Italian city of Venice, a route that until now was not possible directly. The communication and Institutional relations manager, Alfons Claver, presented the company’s project at Malaga airport, from where they’ll be flying, as from June, to Asturias, Zaragoza and Bordeaux. “We are very happy with the response we have received in Malaga. Out of the one hundred tickets we have sold since the 2nd of March, six thousand of them were to fly from this airport. We are very satisfied”, he assured. Continue reading

Turkish Airlines will be connecting Malaga airport with the Iraqi city of Mosul as from Thursday

The company Turkish Airlines announced the opening of a route which will be linking Malaga airport with the iraqi city of Mosul. They explained that the expansion of destinations is part of the expansion policy and, in this case, the new flight will begin to operate on the 13th. They will offer two flights a week, with a stopover in Istanbul, where the company has their operations centre from where they deal with 178 destinations all over the world. This way, the airline open their sixth destination in Irak. Furthermore, they also informed that there will be four flights a week from Madrid and Barcelona, as well as three from Valencia. Malaga Airport has recovered statistics from 2008

The Malaga – Costa del Sol airport recovers the rhythm of 2008, before the economic crisis hit the tourism sector. It’s the first time, since then, that this terminal surpasses 10 million passengers in the first nine months of the year. Yet statistics show that, currently, there is an upward tendency and in 2008 it registered a negative sign of almost four points. The economic recession has already marked a downward curve so far this year. These figures were presented yesterday by AENA (Airports and Air Navigation Network), who informed that over 1.3 million passengers passed through the airport last September, and registered a 5.3% increase in tourists and a 0.6% increase of flights.
