In order to drive from Malaga airport to Fuengirola, take the AP-7 motorway towards Mijas and Algeciras. The distance to travel is about 23.6 kilometres, which will take you about 20 minutes by car.
Fuengirola is a popular tourist destination that offers visitors numerous activities throughout the year for those who want to enjoy something more than just its great beaches. From a zoo that will thrill the little ones to medieval markets or concerts in the area where Sohail Castle is located. The main festivals usually take place at the beginning of the summer, during the months of June and July. The Fair of Fuengirola takes place between the 6th and 12th of October and the well known Fair of the Villages during the months of April and May.
The beginning of the route is similar to the one you should use if you want to drive to Marbella, with the exception that you must take the exit to Fuengirola indicated in the following picture.

There is no direct bus from Malaga airport to Fuengirola. In any case you could take the A Express Line that goes to the centre of Malaga and from there take the bus that goes in the direction of Fuengirola.
