Marbella is an important tourist destination in Malaga throughout the year. It has a wide cultural agenda and events for all tastes, is also the holiday destination of numerous celebrities known internationally. Among the most outstanding places in Marbella are its historic centre and the Plaza de los Naranjos, the Golden Mile, Puerto Banus, San Pedro de Alcantara, Nueva Andalucía and Las Chapas.
Marbella, the internationally famous and popular hot spot of celebrities and the `would like to be´s´ is located just half an hour's drive from Malaga airport. Situated in the heart of the Costa del Sol and picturesquely situated on the slopes of Sierra Blanca, Marbella has hosted since decades distinguished guests attracted by the soft climate all year round and the initial seclusion from crowds and press. Much has changed since then and who is heading to Marbella will find probably everything except seclusion.
Marbella specializes in guests with a sophisticated and exquisite taste, in relation to that which provides the material life. Huge mansions, yachts, expensive cars, exclusive shops, Michelin star restaurants, sophisticated night clubs and a vibrant nightlife, along with a large choice of five-star hotels and some of the best golf courses are the sparkling, extroverted face of Marbella.
Although there are quite well-known personalities who spend their vacation quietly and secluded, it would be all right to say that in Marbella prevails an exhibitionist note. Not everyone's cup of tea and so many well-heeled visitors have moved to the neighbouring municipalities of Estepona and Manilva, away from the hustle and bustle.
Marbella has also yet another face smiling friendly and charming at us in the historical Old Town: Narrow, winding streets, flower-decked balconies, pretty squares and historic buildings give us a very good impression of the original fishing village; a spot where you like to linger with a cafe or a drink in the shade of orange trees, watching the bustle on the streets.
For getting to Marbella avoiding the toll road you should take the A-7 road and the exit to Fuengirola / Mijas; then continue on the national road N-340 until your destination.
The highway is comfortable and smooth and runs between the mountains of Malaga and the Mediterranean. The national road runs mostly on the coast, with some very scenic sections, and runs through all known resorts of the Costa del Sol. Who has time and feels adventurous will explore far more along the national road, but we discourage using it during high season because of heavy traffic.
